Crestview patients see Dr. Carl Speer, DPM at Emerald Coast Foot and Ankle Center in Pensacola, roughly an hour west on I-10. We have no office in Crestview. What you get for the drive is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon in a solo private practice, with X-rays, conservative care and in-office minimally invasive surgery under one roof, and the same doctor at every visit.
Foot and Ankle Care for Crestview and North Okaloosa County
A lot of Crestview residents spend their days on their feet: on base, at warehouses and job sites, in schools and in health care. Add weekend yard work, youth sports and running, and the same problems come up again and again. Heel pain that is worst first thing in the morning. A bunion that makes boots miserable. Toes that have begun to curl and rub. An ankle that never quite recovered from an old sprain.
These problems rarely fix themselves, and waiting usually means the joint or tendon becomes harder to treat. Our goal is to find the cause early, treat it with the least invasive option that will work and keep you working while you heal.
Who You Will See
Dr. Speer earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in 2016. He completed a three-year residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as chief resident, followed by the Southeast Permanente Foot and Ankle Trauma and Reconstructive Surgical Fellowship in Atlanta. He is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, with advanced training in sports medicine, forefoot and rearfoot surgery, infection and diabetic reconstructive surgery. His published research includes a study of reoperation and new ulceration after toe amputation in diabetic and non-diabetic patients.
Services for Crestview Patients
Conservative care first
Most people start with non-surgical treatment. Depending on the diagnosis, that can mean footwear advice, padding, custom orthotics, anti-inflammatory treatment, non-surgical ingrown toenail care, toenail fungus treatment or regenerative podiatric medicine. If you have diabetes, our diabetic foot care focuses on catching skin, nail and pressure problems before they turn into wounds.
In-office minimally invasive surgery
When conservative care is not enough, Dr. Speer offers minimally invasive podiatric surgery, including the InvisiFoot™ minimally invasive surgery method. Small incisions allow many bunion, hammertoe and toe-straightening corrections to be done in the office. Compared with traditional open surgery, patients generally have less scarring and get back into normal shoes sooner. Learn more about bunion and bunionette surgery and hammertoe surgery.
Tendon and sports injuries
Achilles pain, posterior tibial tendon problems and overuse injuries are common in runners and people who carry loads at work. See our tendon pain treatment page for how we diagnose and treat them.
When a Crestview Patient Should See a Podiatrist
Some foot problems settle with rest. Others get worse the longer you wait. Book a visit if you notice any of the following:
- Heel or arch pain that has lasted more than two or three weeks, or that is worst with the first steps of the morning
- An ankle that keeps rolling or feels unstable months after a sprain
- A bunion or bent toe that makes work boots or athletic shoes painful
- Swelling, redness or drainage around a toenail
- Numbness, burning or tingling in the feet, especially if you have diabetes
- Pain that changes the way you walk or keeps you from exercise
Getting the diagnosis right early often means simpler treatment, fewer visits and less time off work, which matters even more when the office is an hour away.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is your office from Crestview?
Our Pensacola office is about an hour from Crestview by I-10, depending on traffic and where in Crestview you start.
Will I need several trips before surgery?
Usually not many. Because we take X-rays in the office, most patients leave the first visit with a diagnosis and a plan. If surgery is right for you, we schedule it and your follow-up visits together.
Can you treat my foot problem without surgery?
Often, yes. Dr. Speer starts with the least invasive option likely to work and only recommends surgery when conservative care has not given lasting relief.
Do you see children and older adults?
Yes. We see patients of all ages, from teens with sports injuries to older adults with arthritis, bunions or nail problems.
Schedule Your Visit
Crestview families do not have to live with foot pain. Request an appointment and let Dr. Speer find out what is going on. Patients also come to us from nearby Niceville, Milton and Navarre.
